It’s been a while, folks – a lot of technical issues have meant that the written blog posts have not gone up for your hungry eyes! But, here we are again, with a few words to tell you what’s going on down at the Market at the moment.
As you may have grown used to by now, The Penny Market enjoys giving its loyal customers a world tour right at home. A free plane ticket, a jaunt across oceans without the jetlag, an adventure without any of the hassle, if you will. Today, we pay extra special attention to two of our slightly newer stalls, which do exactly that…
Your flight today calls you, lovely Londoner, first to Spain, and then to Jamaica! It sounds long, but read these words, close your eyes and you are there….
We touch down in our little corner of España, when we make our way to the pretty pastel stall headed up by our friends at Croquetas Vigar. They are new family members here at the Market, and offer tiny fried balls of deliciousness, from a secret grandmother recipe. If you’ve had a croqueta before, you’re probably used to them being filled with chicken, fish, or vegetables, with a scrummy sauce to go with it. You’ll find all of that here (in abundance, even!) but our Spanish friends wouldn’t dream of stopping there! They’ve catered for those of us with more of a sweet tooth, putting a twist on the traditional version of the croqueta. Apple and cinnamon, anyone? Nougat and chocolate? These exciting mini desserts mean you don’t only get to go to Spain without leaving the city, but you also get to do what everyone wants to do when they go on holiday – try something they never have before! We absolutely ADORE this sweet spin on street food, and couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Our second stop is not just for fuel! We’re going to take some time off in Jamaica, with our friends at Aunty D’s! A country well known for its food full of spicy goodness, its good music and its cocktails has brought us one of our favourite products in the whole Market. Made with authentic, best-quality Jamaican scotch-bonnett chili, Aunty D’s chili jam will make you sorry you ever tried anything else with your cheese and crackers… With just the right amount of bite, and a special, unique, glorious taste, it goes super well with lots of meats, veggies and cheeses, and will always provide that extra punch when you can’t figure out what your dish is missing.
Come down and travel with us!
See you soon,
